The Roosevelt Elementary School District, situated in the Phoenix Schools place to the south side of the town, is in serious trouble. The mostly low-income section is coping with uncertainty for a long time, and the situation is only exacerbated by the possible takeover by the Arizona Department of Education.

Arizona Department of Education held a meeting in one of Roosevelts college gyms to present the situation to all concerned, last December. Over 200 parents, teachers and other community members were present as Arizona Schools Chief Tom Horne, flanked by 25 of his top staff members, laid out the Phoenix schools Roosevelt districts issues. Five members of the Phoenix schools Roosevelt district board were present.

Horne, a Harvard-trained attorney, didn’t mince his words as he offered slide after slide and graph after graph that illustrated the large negative numbers that concerned this Phoenix schools district. Many in attendance were clearly shocked by the scale of the problem with which they and the district are faced.

One point that Horne hammered home for the five Phoenix schools Roosevelt district board members present, as well as the market, was that other school districts were doing much better with similar resources. Three neighboring Phoenix schools areas have just as many impoverished families since the Roosevelt center. They have just as much students with English as a second language, who need the training, resources and additional time to master English in order to achieve the Phoenix schools. Yet, these three Phoenix schools districts have between 64 and 7-8 percent of the pupils accomplishing at grade level in math for the third grade, with Roosevelt at 45 percent; and 62 and 72 percent in reading, with Roosevelt at 3-4 percent. Exactly the same is true in one other rating sizes. In most 27 separate measurements, Roosevelt is considerably below another three identical Phoenix schools districts. That is very nearly double the number of students showing educational achievement, as compared to Roosevelt. Dig up more about by browsing our splendid article. (You could view Hornes charts at:

What really hit home for the people in attendance is that Roosevelt gets per scholar funding above the state average, yet no other region in the state has done so defectively. In 2005, the Arizona Department of Education placed 1-0 of the Roosevelt schools as underperforming. The district has only 21 schools. It was an unprecedented level of under-performing schools in the Phoenix schools region. Get further about click here by going to our rousing portfolio.

Things must improve rapidly for your Phoenix schools area. Otherwise, the state will take over the area and all its schools. Horne is applying pressure to change in-effective personnel and upgrade the areas techniques. Meanwhile, Horne has called for legislation to permit the state to take over whole districts and school boards for poor student performance.

The Roosevelt area has taken the threat of take-over by Horne to heart. This season, many major changes have been initiated by them, including:

New and modern practices;

Region teachers work together to build up a viable and guaranteed curriculum;

Teachers at all levels take part in curriculum mapping, which helps a teacher understand what criteria to teach students and when to teach them;

A standards-based progress report now replaces the range grade reporting system, helping teachers and parents understand the language of requirements and develop a consistency between section reports and the results of the statewide test; and

A comprehensive curriculum guide was created and implemented that features expectations and a curriculum pacing calendar.

Only time (and a really short time, at that) will tell if these changes will be enough to raise the Phoenix schools Roosevelt areas under-performing schools. If not, then your section is going to be under new management their state..Empire Pump Corp
